Supporting Food System Resilience for Thriving Communities

Food system resilience is crucial for building thriving communities. By supporting resilient food systems, we can ensure equitable access to nutritious food, promote sustainable agriculture, and foster community development. Food system resilience matters for several reasons. Resilient food systems provide stable access to healthy food, reducing hunger and malnutrition. Practices like regenerative agriculture and agroecology promote soil health, biodiversity, and efficient water use. Further, local food systems can stimulate local economies, create jobs, and preserve cultural heritage. We can also support local food systems by encouraging local food production, processing, packaging, and distribution to stimulate local economies. Resilient food systems can help communities adapt to climate change, reducing the risk of food shortages and price volatility.
The Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) supports and empower vulnerable communities in agriculture by providing training in vegetable cultivation, poultry and livestock farming, growing of various crops such as tomatoes, maize, millet, and sorghum, and promoting sustainable income generating activities. This support, enables communities to improve their livelihoods, reduce poverty, and build resilience to climate change.

The Centre for Environment Justice support to vulnerable communities
Recognizing the critical role of agriculture and food security in livelihoods, CEJ is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural practices that preserve biodiversity, enhance resilience, and empower local communities and farmers. We provide support and training to farmers, facilitate knowledge sharing on sustainable agricultural techniques, and advocate for policies that prioritise environmentally friendly farming methods. By strengthening the agricultural sector, we aim to improve livelihoods while minimising environmental degradation. In achieving this, CEJ is with support from various corporating partners, we are able to support several communities in different locations within Zambia.
