English: The legal and regulatory framework that governs the relationship between a host country government and investors in extractive industries is the backbone of long term investor-government relationship. The framework could include several pieces of domestic legislation (including the constitution, mining code, the tax law).

English: Zambia has acceded to over 20 international environmental conventions, and these have a bearing on natural resource management. Different conventions are at different levels of domestication and implementation. Zambia lacks a well informed and organized local public sector to participate in publicizing the vulnerability of the environment and inculcating a sense of responsibility for the environment.
