On August 12th, 2023, a significant event unfolded for the international youth day at Chipata Level One Hospital. The Girls Training on Climate Change, a collaborative effort between the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) and Girls Pride, brought together a diverse group of participants with a shared mission, to raise awareness about climate change and equip young girls with the knowledge to become environmental advocates. This impactful training, which hosted 50 participants, aimed to educate girls aged 12 to 18, both school-going students and teenage mothers, coming from seven different wards within the Mandevu constituency.

The training’s primary objective was to shed light on the various dimensions of climate change – its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. As the event unfolded, it became evident that the Girls Training on Climate Change had succeeded in its mission to instill awareness and empowerment. The participants, coming from diverse backgrounds and life stages, found common ground in their dedication to understanding and addressing climate change. The inclusion of teenage mothers alongside school-goers symbolized a commitment to inclusivity and highlighted the relevance of climate education across different life paths.

By fostering an environment of open dialogue and shared learning, the event nurtured a growing community of informed and motivated young individuals prepared to champion the cause of environmental sustainability.
